When will I get my copy of the book?
Assuming no hiccups along the way, the book will be published on October 20, 2026. I will send ebook download codes as soon as the book is ready (likely on or before the actual publication date) and will send physical copies as soon as I receive them from the printer. With luck that will be in October, but it may be November. Either way, you should get your copies before the end of 2026 so you can give them as gifts during the holiday season!

How long is the book?
I’m still working on edits, but as a rough estimate, it is about 30,000 words. That’s ~roughly~ around 100 pages depending on how I decide to format it. It’s a novella, which means it’s shorter than a novel. It’s a quick, fun read but it has depth too.

Can I get more than one copy of the book?
Yes! Physical and ebook copies are available as add-ons when you pledge.

Can I get a physical book even if I don't live in the U.S?
Yes, but be aware that overseas shipping costs are very high these days (one might even say they’re out of control). Backerkit charges separately for shipping costs, so you may end up paying as much as $35 in a few months to ship a $10 paperback.

Is the book suitable for children?
I’ve done my best to make the book suitable for everyone to read, but it’s not intended for young children (although your kid may love it–it depends on the kid in question). There’s only mild bad language and no overt sexual content, but there are some potentially scary scenes, including several fight scenes, one with a gun. Still, it’s cozy fantasy so the vibe is overall hopeful and the emphasis is on friendship and belonging.

How does "name a character" work?
One of the pledge levels is the ability for you to name a character in The Moonhound. Here is how that will work.
After the campaign ends, I’ll message everyone who backed at the “name a character level” to ask for the name you want me to use. You can let me know as much or as little about the name as you like. I’ll do my best to match the name to a character who most closely fits the details you provide, with limitations. For instance, if four people back at this level and all four names start with the same letter, I’ll need to make sure the four characters so named are in different scenes. Otherwise it can get really confusing!
Similarly, the book is already written and there are only so many characters I have earmarked for renaming. I can’t guarantee that your chosen name will be given to a specific species or gender of animal, although I’ll do my best to match your preferences whenever possible.
All characters to be renamed have speaking parts, and a few of them will probably appear in the sequel, possibly with a more important role!
If you have questions, feel free to post or message me!

Where can I get the book once it's published?
The book will be available to order anywhere. It will be distributed through Ingram, which means book stores can order returnable copies and libraries get a discount. I will also have the ebook download available through my Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/cw/KateShaw.

When will I get my book/ebook?
The final stages of editing are almost done, mostly just catching typos, making name changes based on the “name a character” reward, and tinkering with commas. Formatting should go quickly once the finished draft is finalized. In other words, we’re ahead of schedule and everything is going well!
Ebook download codes should be ready well in advance of the physical books, because we don’t have to wait for the printer to ship up copies. If you are getting both a physical copy and an ebook, you’ll receive the ebook download code first, probably in early September. Physical books will be sent as soon as I receive them and shipping prices are calculated and collected from backers.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
